Redbox has launched a new streaming service called Free Live TV. And, in case you haven’t figured it out from the name, it offers free live TV to anyone who wants it. You don’t even have to create an account, but you will have to put up with the occasional ad break.
How Many Streaming Services Do We Need?
There are a growing number of television streaming services available. Some, such as Netflix and Disney+, will cost you a monthly subscription fee. However, others, such as IMDb TV and Pluto TV, are ad-supported and therefore free to watch.
Now, Redbox, which most people will know as the company that rents DVDs out of kiosks, has launched its own streaming service. It’s being rolled out slowly, and the content on offer at launch is a little lacking, but it’s free, so who’s complaining?
How to Watch Free Live TV on Redbox
Free Live TV is exactly what the name suggests. It offers free live television for anyone who can access the Redbox website or apps (on Android and iOS). There are multiple channels to explore, and when you find something you want to watch, you can do so.
PSA: @redbox has an app where you can look up movies and reserve them. You don’t have to stand at the box for 20 minutes and read the summary of every movie trying to find the one you want and hold up all the smart people. That is all.

You don’t need a Redbox account to access Free Live TV. Just visit the website or open the app, find the Free Live TV tab, and start watching. The one catch, if it can be called that, is the presence of advertising, as Free Live TV is entirely supported by ads.
As for the content, it’s a mixed bag. There are channels devoted to comedy, viral videos, entertainment news, pets, and films. There are also specific channels for Family Feud, America’s Home Videos, TMZ, USA Today, and FailArmy.
This isn’t exactly top-draw television, which is why it’s available for free. Still, for the sake of sitting through the occasional ad break, you get to watch some entertaining (albeit cheap and cheerful) television. Giving cord-cutters another option.
Other Free TV Channels to Watch Online
Redbox isn’t going to win any awards for the offerings available on Free Live TV. But that was never the intention. Instead, this offers people another way to watch television online for free without paying for a subscription to a streaming service. Which is great.
