You Can Now Watch YouTube TV on Your PS4

YouTube TV is now available on your PS4. Sony had previously shunned all other options in order to promote its own live TV streaming service. However, with PlayStation Vue shutting down, Sony is finally allowing alternatives on the PS4. Starting with YouTube TV.

Sony Shuts Down PlayStation Vue

In October 2019, Sony announced that it was shutting down PlayStation Vue. For the uninitiated, Vue was Sony’s live TV streaming service, which allowed users to stream movies, TV shows, and sporting events on their devices without a cable subscription.

Unfortunately, competition was fierce, and growing all of the time (see Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, Philo, and others). So, Sony decided to kill PlayStation Vue and focus its energy elsewhere (such as the PlayStation 5). Leaving space for the competition.

How to Install YouTube TV on PS4

If you’re a PlayStation Vue refugee you can now install YouTube TV on your PS4. All you need to do is find the app on the PlayStation Store and install it onto your PS4. Then, either sign in or sign up for an account, and you can start using YouTube TV.

The app itself is free, but you will need a YouTube TV subscription to actually access the lineup of channels. However, there is a free trial available so you can try before you buy. Be warned that you will be charged unless you cancel before the trial runs out.

YouTube TV offers cable-free live TV from networks including ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and ESPN. You can watch channels live or record shows using the included Cloud DVR. This comes with unlimited storage, and stores recordings for up to nine months.

YouTube TV is currently priced at $50/month, although Google tends to raise its prices every year. As with most other live TV services, YouTube TV offers a monthly, pay-as-you-go membership, which means that you can cancel your subscription at any time.

The Best Live TV Streaming Services

With YouTube TV costing the same price as the cheapest PlayStation Vue bundle, former Vue subscribers may as well switch to YouTube TV. However, there’s a chance that Sony will allow more live TV streaming services onto its platform in the coming months.

Talking of competition, this is a growing sector, with more companies than ever trying to appeal to cord-cutters who have waved goodbye to cable. So, here’s our list of the best live TV streaming services to help you decide which one is best for you.
